We’re Mitch and Carrie and we want to help you discover the best hikes, daytrips, mountain towns, scenic drives, and other adventures in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The Blue Ridge Mountains stretch from Pennsylvania to Georgia, but the heart of the mountains lies in Virginia and North Carolina along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
We’ve lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Roanoke, VA for many years and we’ve spent many, many hours exploring the trails, restaurants, breweries, waterfalls, and towns throughout Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
We’ve come to realize that most people have no idea there are so many amazing things to see and do in this area. From gorgeous waterfalls to sweeping mountain views to historic mountain towns, there are endless ways to spend a beautiful day.
We began Blue Ridge Awaits as a way to share our love of the Blue Ridge with others. Our mission is to share the absolute best parts of this area so you can experience that magic as well.
Meet Mitch
Hello, I’m Mitch! While I’m not a native of Roanoke, I have lived here almost 20 years. I lived in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains before moving to Virginia and that’s where I fell in love with hiking.
I feel beyond lucky to be able to live and play in the Blue Ridge and I cherish the time I get to share with my family and friends hiking and exploring. I also love coffee, like a lot. Some would say too much, but they just don’t understand our relationship.
Meet Carrie
Hi, I’m Carrie! I’ve lived in the Roanoke Valley basically my entire life and I love it here. There’s just something magical about being surrounded by these beautiful mountains. I love exploring new places and I have a special talent for finding amazing places to visit that not everyone has heard of.
One of my life goals is to help our boys experience the beauty and wonder of the world around us. I love waterfalls, beautiful lakes, small towns, and roadtrips. And I would eat pizza for every meal if that was socially acceptable.
Meet the boys
Our family’s favorite thing to do is hit the road on a sunny Saturday morning and set off in search of an adventure. We have three boys who are almost always up for a roadtrip, especially if it involves picnics, climbing rocks, and finding bugs.
